My Bio

I was born in Oak Park, Illinois (a suburb of Chicago, also known for having several examples of architect Frank Lloyd Wright's work). My mother and two brothers all worked as nurses at one time or another, so it was inevitable that I would end up working with nurses.

I studied design and education at the Institute of Design - Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago and then worked in the music business for several years. During the late 70s I was able to combine my interests in music and design as Manager of Audio-Visual Services at The Wurlitzer Company. In the late 80s and early 90s, I produced marketing and training videos in the Chicago area, and still occasionally teach a class in video production.

In the late 1990s, I worked for the Petsmart Store Support Group in Phoenix as an instructional technologist and produced several technology based instructional modules.

I am a late bloomer in educational technology pursuits, starting my master's in my 40s and finishing my doctorate in 2005 (age 53). Currently I am the Coordinator of Media, Instructional & Media Support (MICS) for the ASU College of Nursing and Health Innovation. Lifelong learning is very real to me because my technology based job requires it.
